I happen to catch half of III yesterday.
Am I the only one who thought it was wierd that the band played Gonna Fly Now at the statue celebration? I mean, does the character "Rocky" know that that piece exists? I she listening to it thinking ... "this is what I run to?". Very strange.

I never liked than in III (twice! During his first training with Clubber Lang, Mickey tells the band playing GFN to "Shut up back there, can't ya? Change ya tune!") and V, they broke the fourth wall and had bands playing that song.

Isn't GFN also played in the original Rocky before the end fight? I don't remember exactly.

Well when and wherever its played its a TUUUUUUUUUUNE!!! I think that maybe what we hear became a realy life Rocky anthem in the fictional world of Rocky - does that make sense??

Yeah, I've always thought that. It's Rocky's fight music, and so we as the viewers are always shown that when he trains etc

Yea but like I mean in the world of Rocky - like, in the fictional story - I think it was an anthem too! Not just one for viewers to hear but people in Rockys world knew the song too. Am I making any sense??! lol

Marquis, "Gonna Fly Now" is only played once during the first "Rocky". Maybe you're thinking of the "Fanfare for Rocky" during the shot of the mic dropping? And that's just score, not something a band IN the movie is playing.
