I don't know. I always thought Rocky's mindset towards Drago was what he told Adrian: "To beat me, he's gonna have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gotta have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's gotta be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that." He's basically saying, if I die, Drago's coming with me. I admired that. He would not let Drago beat him. or probably he wouldn't have allowed Drago to knock him down for good which could already have been "almost" a victory

After the first round Mickey probably would have screamed some orders and told him to switch styles. Or perhaps would have thrown in the towel. point is you can switch styles if you can choose among different styles, but before the Apollo treatment his only style was the "predictable and stupid" one, as Clubber pointed out

I don't know if Rocky would have allowed that to happen. Rocky had extreme pride in himself. Throwing in the towel would have been quitting, and Rocky could never have lowered himself to do that. He was like Apollo: "Don't stop this fight, no matter what." And to Rocco, I agree with everything you said.

Point is, he probably would have done better with Mick than with Paulie. He'd have more instructions than "just try to block." I hope.

He was like Apollo: "Don't stop this fight, no matter what." This is a difficult one actually. Its hard to say whether I think Rocky would have said that or not - like Apollo - but I suspect that he would have done. He probably would have gotton Micky to not thow the towel in. We already know that he was willing to put his marriage on the line for what he loved doing - so like Apollo - he wouldnt have given his wife a second thought (and yea, that really is what I think) However, Micki did not want Rocky to fight Clubber- and if Rocky was stubborn, then my god, Micki was too! He may have thrown the towel in anyway and taken Rockys tantrum afterwards. I think that Rocky may have fared slightly better with Micky there - but he wouldnt have won. Apollo summed it up really when he said that even though Mickis death had him all messed up inside, he had still lost his edge. Thats what ultimately failed him.

BTW: did anybody ever think that when Mickey took a brief look at Rocky's battered face right before dying he might have understood that Rocky lost (and royally lost) against Clubber? I think so, and I think that a mix of shame and guilt due to that (the last image of your father figure in his life is your loss) haunted Rocky until Adrian's speech on that sunny californian shore

i always wondered that too. Rocky never actually said whether he won or not to Mickey; all he said was "It was a knockout. 2nd round." I do think that carried over through part of his mental mindset at the time.

that must be something heavy to carry in anybody's soul, first of all in Rocky's
