I don't know if such thread was already written, in such case I guess Dawn can merge the two of them ;D Just got the book. It's great. Honestly. The guy speaks out about life, fitness and nutrition. I loved few parts of what I read until now 1) the fact that Sly admitted he didn't do much workouts until he auditioned Carl Weathers for Rocky, sparred with him, went out of steam after one minute, and found himself breathless staring at Carl's amazing body building shape. That was a major turning point for him as a sportsman. Once again, just like Rocky and Apollo Sly and Carl may be considered two halves of a whole 2) The bench press competition against Franco Colombu, his pectoral exploding and Sly commenting on how dumb guys can be when they go all "let's see who has the longer dick here" ;D 3) the training sessions before the shooting of "III": of course his nutritional habits back there were nuts, but such workouts........2,5% of body fat. I think it is world record material or something close to that! 4) Ronald Reagan quote:"next time that happens (americans kept hostages in Lebanon) I know what to do" just after watching first blood part II in the whitehouse ;D ;D ;D

You are OK, Rocco. No thread has been made on this. I couldnt merge them anyway - I can only move threads to other boards. Anyway, irrelevant! lol wow! interesting. You can kinda see though that Sly didnt work out before he did the first Rocky. I just bet Carl was an inspiration! LMAO!! I'd like to hear his opinions on his training at that time, too. I didnt realise it was likely close to a world record! (his body fat percentage I mean)
lol. Wow this book does sound great. It was already on my 'to get' list - but now I REALLY want it! Thanks for the snippets, Rocco!

What kills me is Reagan's comment - and you know he was serious. He actually wanted to send in Rambo.
Also interesting, Sly was trying to bulk up for training in Rocky II, but was doing so with fudge sundaes and cookies and pizza. Only after learning about good carbs and bad carbs did he winnow down his physique to the lean and defined muscle mass he had in the beginning of III.

I almost forgot to mention that when Sly showed up at the Philly's football stadium as a guest 70.000 people cheered at him shouting: "ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What was he thinking??? Man even I would know not to eat that rubbish if I was building myself up!! yeesh, I bet he felt real unhealthy scoffing all that Yep, it comes from old concepts about training that still exist today. Body builders, in order to gradually work up a more imposing build, often gain body fat which aids in creating muscle mass. While each muscle group heals, it draws energy to generate more muscle mass from the body fat. Nevertheless, you are what you eat, and today's science says that bulking up should be done with healthier foods to ensure that one's body is not overstrained and that the food taken in has more overall health benefits.

Well yea I understand that you need to get bigger first so that there is something there for to help build your mass upon - but eating all that unhealthy food isnt going to your heart any good! Like you said, overall health benefits are needed. For a start, you wouldnt have any energy eating that rubbish - it just makes you feel sluggish. I'm sure that your body would generally respond a lot better to the workouts too, if it was in better shape through healthy eating. If anyone ate that unhealthy food for any length of time, and tried to train intensely, they'd keel over at some point after having a heart attack, i'm sure

He says people (espechially in Philly) can't distinguish between Sly and Rocky. He says they never shout 'Sly' or anything, its always 'Rocky!'.

It's an excellent book! Sly reveals so much of himself in this! (Enjoy the pic above! He was either on his way to work out or just got finished!)
