Anyone here actually read the Harry Potter books??
IF YOU HAVE THEN DONT TELL ME HOW IT ENDS!!!
I have just read the first one to my son - and I am now addicted! I have to see what all the fuss is about and if the first one is anything to go by, then i'm sure they only get better and better
(still ploughing through Salem though, ste, lol!)

Mrs. B I love Harry Potter probably as much as any book I've read. I'm only about halfway through the 7th book but trust me, it's awesome. What a great idea for a book!! I love how everything in the stories blends together to make it like a world of their own. When you think of witchcraft, this is what you think of.

She made every kid wanna go to Hogwarts - that I know. It reminds me very much of 'The Worst Witch' series by Jill Murphy. It was just the same! Although the plot was not as deep and intricate - no rooted philosophical thread or anything.
The Worst witch was all about Mildred Hubble who went to - you guessed it - a school for witches (Cackles Academy). Miss Cackle was just like Dumbledore (wise and all-knowing), the main teacher, Miss Hardbroom, was just like Snape (strict and nasty, but good deep-down). Anyway, Mildred was a terrible witch who never got anything right and she was always at loggerheads with Ethel (who was just like Drago Malfoy). The archetypal characters work in any setting I guess.
I loved the Worst witch books (which were actually made into a TV series) - but Rowling has taken the concept to a whole new level.
We're on 'The Chamber of Secrets' now!

Mrs. B, I was able to finish the last installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and it is by far my favorite one. I would like to say "my favorite one so far," but sadly, that was the last one. It's amazing, I finished reading and I'm sad to find out, that's it. It really is sad, what a story!!

My favourite series of books. They get progressively darker as they go on (the 3rd one deals with a serial killer, for example) so you might not want to read them to your kid unless you think its appropriate. The last one is my favourite too. My ranking:
Deathly Hallows Half-Blood Prince Prizoner of Azkaban Goblet of Fire Order of the Phoenix Chamber of Secrets Philosopher's Stone

i actually thought the books got better as the story went on. Everytime J.K. Rowling made a new Harry Potter book, that was my favorite.

Hey 62sg - yes I did hear that they get darker as they go on. i am going to read the first three to him - and then he can read the others when he is older. We are still only halfway through the second one at the moment, though.
Ste - I imagine that I will feel the same - and that i'll like them more as they go on.
My sister HATES the file 'Goblet of Fire' though - she said that so much was missed from the film that was in the book, that she couldnt even watch the film again after the first time.
