This is a beautiful pieceof neo-noir, the character has many ugly flaws and yet we want him to win out in the end. He's a lot like Rambo. He is tough and to the point.
I know this is a remake, but I think it's a good remake. Any thoughts?

What stuck out for me is that it's a fairly well budgeted action film starring Sylvester Stallone that was right at the end of his popularity in action films, and was recent enough to have all the pop and sizzle of the newer films made by Michael Mann and Antoine Fuqua. It's got the busy, flashy cinematography and the impressive use of atmosphere.
Action films are slowly getting away from that, and so if you think about it, Sly barely got this one in under the radar. He did a film that will be part of an era of action films, the only one he did of its kind, and it's a truly well made, edgy noir film. It still looks and sounds as if it could have come out this summer, but was obviously made a few years back when Sly was younger looking.
Plus, let's not forget the important part - Sly's performance is incredible. You can tell he was really enjoying playing a hard edged tough guy, a true antihero. And play one he does; he comes off somewhere between Philip Marlowe and Attila the Hun. He did not play around, and he looks great with a goatee.

When I saw "Get Carter", I tried to grow a goatee... it looked like shit, so I shaved it off.
Mrs. B, Michael Caine was in both "Get Carter"s. He was Carter in the original and he was in the remake.
